Iron Infusion
Iron infusions are usually prescribed by doctors to treat low-iron conditions (iron deficiency anemia)
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Please book an initial consultation before scheduling an iron infusion administration. This will need to be booked in at least 3 days prior to your administration to for the blood test and the script.
Note that an extra medication fee applies to the administration if you do not meet criteria for MOH funding.
You will be fully monitored by the doctor administering the infusion. Please allow an additional 20 minutes observation period after the infusion is over.

Iron infusions are usually prescribed by doctors to treat low-iron conditions (iron deficiency anemia) if you:
- can’t absorb iron adequately through the gut.
- can’t absorb enough iron due to blood loss.
- need to increase iron levels fast to avoid medical complications or a blood transfusion.
- can’t take iron by mouth.
Rather than taking iron iron supplements with your food iron infusion delivers iron directly into your body intravenously.
How to Prepare for an Iron Infusion
In the initial consultation, we will give you specific instructions for preparing for your first iron infusion treatment. Some basic things you can do to prepare on the day of your infusion include:
- eat your breakfast and lunch, as there is no need to fast for an iron infusion.
- take your regular medications.
- be prepared to have a small IV drip put in your arm or hand.
You may feel nervous about your iron infusion. You can help reduce any anxieties by talking about the procedure with your doctor first. We can recommend ways to help you stay comfortable and relaxed during the procedure.
You will fully monitored by the doctor administering the infusion.
Our doctor will give you a test dose first to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions from the iron. Once the infusion is complete, please allow an additional 20 minutes observation period after the infusion is over. You can relax comfortably in our waiting room.
